This is a civil war soldiered carried hard backpack from Hanover Co. Virginia. It belonged to the 74th company and was most likely confederate owned. It is in original as found relic condition missing the leather shoulder straps. Soldiers carried their necessities in these backpacks which included a mess kit and utensils, compass, maps, briches, bible, socks, hard tack, inkwells for writing letters to their loved ones, a wool bedroll on top etc. Good unusual Civil War relic.
