THIS IS AN EARLY CIVIL WAR SOCKET BAYONET THAT WAS FOUND IN FREDERICKSBURG VIRGINIA. A SOLDIER CONVERTED THIS TO USE AS A BATTLEFIELD BODY DRAG AND TRENCH TOOL. IT TOOK TWO SOLDIERS WHO HAD THE GRIM TASK OF REMOVING BODIES OFF THE FIELD SLIDING THE DRAG OF THE RIFLE BAYONET UNDER THE ARMS OF THE DECEASED AND PULLING THEM TO THE WAGONS TO BE BURIED NEARBY. THE TIP IS WORN SMOOTH FROM HEAVY USE. GOOD UNUSUAL HISTORIC ARTIFACT FROM THE CIVIL WAR. MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 12 INCHES.
